Hypnosystemic Thinking
In brief
Hypnosystemic psychotherapy combines systemic, constructivist thinking with a focused, goal-oriented way of working during the conversation. It starts from the idea that we ourselves actively shape how we experience and interpret our lives – and that opens up room for choice and change. Consciousness, focus of attention, and the body can be valuable sources of information: they provide us with answers about how we envision our lives and actions, help us understand what matters to us, what we need, and what direction feels right. We do not focus solely on “symptoms”. Our life experiences, relationships, and the meaning we make of them are central to finding paths to achieve our goals. Our values and personal qualities have accompanied us throughout our lives. Yet, when we are struggling, our attention often tends to focus more on what we have not achieved, what we do not have or what we cannot do. A hypnosystemic approach helps us to consciously access our competence and experiences. We learn to direct our attention in a certain way, so that we are able to identify coherent goals even in difficult life situations. We promote practical, workable steps towards them in a resource- and solution-oriented manner, at a pace that suits your life.
My guiding principles
- Attention is crucial: Our perspective on things shapes experience and opens up options. We consciously decide what to focus on.
- Context over blame: Symptoms and patterns have a history and a function. We learn to recognise their messages and the underlying needs. We first identify what is undesirable in these symptoms before taking steps towards changing them into desirable experiences.
- Clear and meaningful goals: Goals must be meaningful, realistic and clear in the context of your life in order to be significant.
- Small steps – noticeable improvements: Planning steps so that they feel feasible and have a verifiable effect.
- Self-regulation and co-regulation: Calmness, trust and overview promote sound decisions.
- Control and routines instead of chance: We practice, control and anchor strategies to make it part of everyday life.
- Autonomy and transparency: You make all the decisions in your life. I provide clarity about possibilities and a supportive framework for your journey.
How does this benefit you?
- Quick access to support and consolation
- Guidance and control with defined next steps in challenging situations
- More influence over stress, sleep and recovery
- Clear communication in relationships: conscious, understandable and effective
- Sustainable: changes remain because they are meaningful and sensible
